double nerve transfer for restoration of shoulder function

Double nerve transfer involves:
1. Spinal accessory nerve to Suprascapular nerve
2. Long head triceps branch of radial nerve transfer to Axillary nerve.

These transfers are described individually in separate articles on this Shoulder page. See the article under Nerve palsy regarding isolated Axillary nerve palsy, and the article just above on Spinal accessory transfer.

Assuming that radial nerve function is in tact, both of these nerve transfers can be performed using a posterior approach.
