    Treating the Person
Freedom Therapy recognizes people as individuals with individual needs and interests.  We understand the importance of using a holistic approach to treatment with emphasis on the person, not the illness or injury.  We listen, which allows us to tailor treatment plans to meet the individual’s specific goals, desires and personal expectations from a therapy program.
    Functional Outcomes
Freedom Therapy strives to assist individuals with achieving their optimal levels of performance in activities of daily living.  We focus on the illness experience and determine how the illness or injury impacts the person’s ability to function.  Goals and objectives are then established to address these difficulties.  Areas of emphasis include:

    Occupational Therapy
When illness or injury finds its way into our lives it can be devastating and keep us from doing the things we love and enjoy.  Occupational Therapy focuses on helping individuals return to independence with daily tasks such as dressing, feeding, bathing, grooming, and toileting.  Occupational Therapists often perform home safety evaluations and help train individuals on the use of adaptive devices and compensatory equipment to enhance safety.

    Physical Therapy
Physical Therapists help individuals restore health & function through the use of therapeutic exercise & activity.  Physical Therapist work to help individuals improve strength, range-of-motion, endurance, and balance.  Physical Therapists are highly trained to help individuals regain independence with mobility.  It is common for Physical Therapists to help teach clients on the use of mobility devices such as a straight cane or walker to enhance safety.

    Certified Hand Therapy
A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is an Occupational or Physical Therapist who is highly skilled and trained to meet the needs of those who suffer from illness or injury affecting the upper-extremity.  There are many illnesses or conditions that require the skills of a Certified Hand Therapist.  Some common ones are shoulder rotator-cuff tear, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendon and nerve lacerations, amputations, crush injuries, fractures, osteoarthritis, joint contracture, tennis-elbow, golfers-elbow, shoulder joint replacement, and trigger finger.

    In-Home Therapy (Home Care)
There are times when individuals require therapy services in the comforts of home.  Seniors often benefit from one-on-one attention and can get intimidated by the overwhelming environment of most fast-paced outpatient clinics.  Freedom Therapy understands this.  By providing therapy to individuals in the comfort of home, families don’t need to worry or stress about finding a loved one transportation.   Home therapy also eliminates the need for therapists to simulate or predict the challenges a client will encounter when at home, as our therapists are their first-hand to observe & witness these challenges so we can properly address them.

    Outpatient Therapy
There are times when a client’s needs are best met on an outpatient basis.  This allows the use of specific modalities and equipment that are not suitable for the home environment.  Freedom Therapy has multiple outpatient therapy locations designed to provide a calm, relaxed environment for adults and seniors to rehabilitate in comfort.  Our therapists are highly skilled and use a compassionate approach.  We take our time with our clients.  Most therapy sessions last over an hour and are provided one-on-one.

    Home Safety Evaluations
For seniors, most falls and injuries occur in the home environment.  This is why Freedom Therapy values the importance of home safety evaluations and performs them when indicated.  During a home safety evaluation a Physical or Occupational Therapist will assess the individual’s home environment for safety hazards.  This includes all aspects of the home utilized by the client.  An important aspect of a home safety evaluation is to observe the individual within their home environment and to learn what their home routines are to help identify risks.  Once risks and hazards are identified, the therapist can provide appropriate interventions.  Often therapist will recommend home modifications and/or adaptive equipment such as wall-mounted grab-bars, raised toilet seats, hand-held shower heads, bathtub transfer benches, and the removal of throw rugs.

    Wheelchair / Power Scooter Evaluations
Many health insurance companies require a Physical or Occupational Therapist to evaluate an individual’s functional mobility to determine if a powered mobility device such as a wheelchair or scooter is medically necessary before they provide reimbursement.  Freedom Therapy does not provide mobility devices, however, our therapist often perform functional mobility evaluations to help individuals and their insurance companies learn if mobility devices are medically necessary or not.

“Life in Balance” Falls Prevention Program
Freedom Therapy has designed a very comprehensive falls prevention program for individuals who are at risk for falls.  This program consists of a thorough physical & functional evaluation, a home safety evaluation, and therapy protocol to specifically address a person’s risk for falls.  Freedom Therapy’s “Life-in-Balance” program is much more specific to fall prevention than a typical physical or occupational therapy plan of care.  Our program incorporates standardized assessments and is designed to meet the unique needs of each individual to enhance their safety.  When indicated, Freedom Therapy also utilizes a very specialized piece of equipment known as a Biodex Balance Machine at our Webster location.

    Specialty Services & Treatments
Other services, treatments, and modalities we provide when indicated are:
paraffin bath treatments, ultrasound therapy, electrical stimulation, neuromuscular re-education, TENS, ionto-phoresis, phono-phoresis, hot-packs/cold-packs, manual therapy and joint mobilizations.

Freedom Therapy believes our emphasis on patient education sets our therapeutic services apart from others.  We understand that an educated client has a higher chance of getting better and staying healthy once discharged from a therapy program.  It’s important for all of us to know and understand our bodies and how to maintain healthy lifestyles.  We want our clients to succeed and incorporate patient education into every therapy session.
